We had sunny beautiful weather at Discovery Park with the local Forest Steward with the Green Seattle Partnership for the last of the summer Squad swims, if a bit windy. j
The site's trees had grown nicely and it was heartening to see much of the noxious Himalayan blackberry significantly reduced and largely under control. We assisted in digging out some crowns still infesting a native rose thicket.
We encountered the Mossy Rose Gall in the rose thicket, which results from a parasitic wasp that lays eggs into the rose's stem tissue, a chemical reaction causes the rose to grow a cozy nest for the wasp larvae to hatch and overwinter in, the plant survives fine.
Additionally we staged mulch farther into the work site. Then we laid out burlap and covered them with wood chips. Thank you Jenny Lee for contributing some of the photos.
