The record-dry month has been a stewardship blessing as we typically contend with working during the cummiest weather month of the year in November. Instead, we’ve enjoyed beautiful and mild days overall with lovely sunshine.
Squad helped to get native plants in the ground along the East Fork of Riverton Creek with the Green Tukwila Partnership. Late autumn is a superb time of year to plant since the young natives have many months of friendly cool temperatures (ie no wilting heat stress) and plentiful moisture while their roots settle in and gradually increase their ability to take up water. We planted a wide variety of species beneath the mature cottonwoods. In fact–the parcel has tentatively had a new name approved by the City Council–Cottonwood Corner. This name celebrates these under-appreciated sentinel species in a sweet way, alluding to children’s love of playing amongst their large trunks along the creek.
