The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust’s native plant nursery at Lake Sammamish State Park is always fun to work at, not to mention quite hospitable under cover in the winter season. We enjoyed potting up bare root native plants–the nursery holds them for around a year to grow larger before being planted out in restoration sites from Puget Sound to up and across Snoqualmie Pass.
The winter dormant season is an excellent time to transplant as plants don’t need to to rely on weak and damaged roots to take up water in hot weather, which combats transplant stress. Traveling along the I-90 corridor one just may see these natives enhancing the Greenway corridor.
